Office of Coordinated Outbreak Response, Evaluation & Emergency Preparedness
Ensuring that food is a vehicle for wellness is the vision of the FDA’s Human Foods Program (HFP). It is our mission to protect and promote the health and wellness of people through science-based approaches to prevent foodborne illness, reduce diet-related chronic disease and ensure chemicals in food are safe.
The Office of Coordinated Outbreak Response, Evaluation & Emergency Preparedness (CORE+EP) supports this mission by leading the HFP’s emergency preparedness and response activities.

What We Do
- Serve as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Human Foods Program (HFP) focal point for emergency preparedness and response.
- Direct and provide leadership for FDA responses to emergency incidents and outbreaks associated with the HFP.
- Direct and provide leadership for food defense and counterterrorism activities in relation to the FDA-regulated segment of the food supply.
- Provide leadership and expertise on matters related to human food traceability and supply chain systems.
- Serve as the lead for directing, developing, and coordinating outreach to stakeholders for all emergency-related Human Foods communications.
