Office of Compliance & Enforcement

Ensuring that food is a vehicle for wellness is the vision of the FDA’s Human Foods Program. It is our mission to protect and promote the health and wellness of people through science-based approaches to prevent foodborne illness, reduce diet-related chronic disease and ensure chemicals in food are safe.

The Office of Office of Compliance and Enforcement (OCE) supports this mission by implementing and managing compliance strategies and enforcement actions.

OCE implements a strong strategy to enhance the effectiveness of inspections, compliance, and enforcement activities across the food sector, in alignment with the goals of the Human Foods Program (HFP). It strategically directs actions that strengthen food safety and ensure adherence to FDA regulations. The OCE is vital in coordinating recall efforts for products regulated under the HFP, ensuring these actions are backed by rigorous scientific, medical, and legal standards. This coordinated effort is crucial in maintaining the integrity and safety of the national food supply chain, directly supporting the HFP’s mission to safeguard public health.

This office comprises:

  • Administrative and Compliance Initiatives Staff
  • Office of Compliance Operations and Implementation
  • Office of Enforcement
  • Office of Compliance Intervention and Consultation
