Chief Information Officer - Office of Digital Transformation
Sanjay Sahoo is the FDA’s Acting Chief Information Officer (CIO). In this role, he sets and leads the agency’s Information Technology (IT) strategy, as well as the enterprise IT, data management and cybersecurity strategies within the Office of Digital Transformation (ODT).
Mr. Sahoo most recently served as Acting Deputy Chief Information Officer in ODT, a position in which he spearheaded the FDA's Information Technology strategy and oversaw enterprise IT, data management, and mission-specific business applications within the Office of Digital Transformation. Before taking on this role, he was the Deputy Director in CDER’s Office of Business Informatics, where he led and coordinated informatics activities across CDER. In that position he was instrumental in building strategic partnerships with CDER clients and translating business priorities into informatics solutions. Mr. Sahoo also led the development and implementation of the FDA’s Adverse Event Monitoring System (AEMS) initiative to consolidate center-level systems across the Agency, including implementation of near real-time data publishing capabilities for the AEMS Public Dashboard, which is designed to strengthen public access to adverse event information and advance the FDA's commitment to transparency.
Mr. Sahoo has extensive expertise in computer science and technology management, skills honed during more than 27 years working in the healthcare/bio-pharmaceutical industry, including as a Global Solution Architect for AstraZeneca PLC / Medimmune. His work there focused on enterprise technology delivery and cost optimization, and including initiatives involving clinical trial transparency and regulatory submission excellence.
Mr. Sahoo received an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University, Carey Business School, and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Institute for Technology and Management, Mumbai, India.
