Caleb Michaud serves as Acting Associate Commissioner for External Affairs where he leads the Agency’s communications and outreach efforts to the news media, health professionals, patient advocates, industry, states, consumer groups, and the general public.

Prior to this role, Mr. Michaud served as the Director of Organizational Communication and Engagement in the FDA Office of Inspections and Investigations (OII) where he led OII’s strategic communication, web and digital media, public affairs, ombudsman, and executive secretariat work. Before assuming this role, he was deputy director for Office of Communication and Project Management. 

Throughout his career, Mr. Michaud has partnered with senior leaders to develop and implement cohesive communication and change management strategies. His previous roles include Deputy Director of the Office of Communication and Project Management and senior advisor to the FDA Associate Commissioner for Planning. 

Prior to joining the FDA, Mr. Michaud served in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service, where he developed and executed initiatives for developing countries to improve their agriculture systems and build trade capacity. He also was a small enterprise development volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Ghana. 

Mr. Michaud received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from Clemson University in South Carolina and master’s certificate in project management from The George Washington University.
