Egg and Egg Products Export Lists
U.S. exports of eggs and egg products to the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) are subject to establishment listing requirements as a precondition for market access.
Industry may apply for inclusion on these lists via the Export Listing Module (ELM). Please visit Online Applications for Export Lists for a link to this electronic system and step-by-step instructions. Please note that FDA does not have a separate application process for the UK lists; establishments that wish to export to the UK should apply for the relevant EU list in the ELM.
The EU listing requirements apply to the following egg and egg product categories:
Product Category |
Description |
Eggs |
Eggs in shell - other than broken, incubated or cooked eggs - that are produced by farmed birds and are fit for direct human consumption or for the preparation of egg products. |
Liquid eggs |
Unprocessed egg contents after removal of the shell. |
Cracked eggs |
Eggs with damaged shell and intact membranes. |
Egg products |
Processed products resulting from the processing of eggs, or of various components or mixtures of eggs, or from the further processing of such processed products. |
Both FDA and USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) have jurisdiction and are the U.S. competent authority for egg and egg products. Egg product processing plants (egg breaking and pasteurizing operations) are under FSIS jurisdiction. FDA has jurisdiction over shell eggs and food products containing eggs that do not meet USDA’s definition of “egg product.” For more information on how to export FSIS-regulated egg products to the EU, visit the USDA/FSIS Export Library.
For more information on the EU’s import requirements for egg and egg products, visit Regulation (EC) No 853/2004.
