Imported Food Safety Measures

This set of measures focuses on imported human food, imported animal food and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). The first compliance dates for FSVP began in May 2017.

Outcome: Reduced Risk of Illness or Injury Attributed to Imported Foods

FDA is collaborating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to establish methods to estimate the impact of increased compliance and enhanced oversight of foreign suppliers on foodborne illness from imported foods in the United States. FDA and CDC continue to develop metrics for this outcome and will report measures once finalized.

Outcome: Increase Compliance of the Foreign Supplier with FDA Safety Standards

I. Number and Percent of Foreign Preventive Controls inspections classified NAI, VAI, OAI

II. Number of Class I and Class II recall events attributed to imported human food

III. Number of Class I and Class II recall events attributed to imported finished animal food that is not intended for further manufacturing or processing
