How to Apply to the FDA Patient Representative Program
The FDA recruits Patient Representatives as needed—this means the agency will seek to identify patients and caregivers in select areas of disease, condition, or medical device experience as it works to regulate medical products. If we are currently recruiting in your area of experience, please read below to make sure you meet the criteria for the FDA Patient Representative Program® and check out our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
To be considered for the FDA Patient Representative Program®, please provide the following information about your experience with a specific disease, condition, or medical device via email to FDAPatientRepProgram@fda.hhs.gov. FDA staff will contact you ONLY IF your experience matches our areas of need. Otherwise, your information will be kept on file for future reference in the event that recruitment in your area is necessary.
Personal Disease/Device Experience
Briefly describe your personal experience with a specific disease, condition, or medical device, either as a patient or as a primary caregiver.
Briefly describe any advocacy work you have done that relates to your disease, condition, or medical device experience. Explain how you have supported and promoted patient awareness that relates to your experience.
Work and Volunteer Experience
Briefly describe your work and/or volunteer activities related to your specific disease, condition, or medical device experience.
Ability to Represent and Communicate Patient Perspectives
Describe activities that would demonstrate your ability to represent your patient community and effectively communicate their perspectives. (Examples include: connections to groups or organizations; involvement with internet forums; experience giving speeches; author or edit related articles, books, blogs, websites, etc.)
