FDA Annual Student Scientific Research Day 2023
FDA Annual Student Scientific Research Day 2023
Organized By:
Office of Scientific Professional Development
Each year, FDA gives high school, college, and graduate students from different backgrounds and scientific disciplines the opportunity to train with mentors from across FDA on regulatory science research projects. In 2023, 60% of the students were females and 40% of the students were male.
Students are exposed to the broad expanse of regulatory science activities underway across the Agency as well as the range of scientific disciplines they call on.
Students also learn first-hand about the Agency’s domestic and global impact. The students are able to attend FDA regulatory science trainings that integrates science, law and policy. With this knowledge, the students are able to complete research projects.
After completing their FDA training program, students are encouraged to explore careers in public health and STEM.
Program Goals
- Recognize FDA student research and contributions to FDA.
- Present FDA student research on a public website annually.
- Support STEM education for students in FDA scientific priority areas.
This website highlights the importance of FDA student programs and the direct impact that their research projects have on advancing regulatory science at FDA.
The book posted on this site contains the abstracts from the 2023 FDA summer students. Among these participants, OSPD received 9 abstracts from the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), 41 submissions from the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), 26 from the Center for Device Evaluation and Research (CDRH), 13 from the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), 3 from the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), and 10 from the National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR).
There were 102 total abstract submissions.
Of the 102 total student abstract submissions, FDA’s strategic initiatives below were supported with:
- 27 student projects related to Public preparedness and response.
- 29 student projects related to Increasing choice competition through innovation.
- 32 student projects related to Unleashing the power of data.
- 14 student projects related to Empowering patients and consumers.
