BAM Media M176: Vogel-Johnson (VJ) Agar

Bacteriological Analytical Manual

Vogel-Johnson (VJ) Agar

Trypticase10 g
Yeast extract5 g
Mannitol10 g
K2HPO45 g
Lithium chloride5 g
Glycine10 g
Phenol red0.025 g
Agar15 g
Distilled water1 liter

Heat with agitation to dissolve agar. Autoclave 15 min at 121°C. Cool to 50°C. Add 20 ml Chapman tellurite solution, 1%, commercially available from Difco Laboratories, Detroit, MI. Mix and pour into plates. Final pH, 7.2 ± 0.2.
