Changes Made to the Total Diet Study Website

The following is a log of updates made to the Total Diet Study information provided on FDA.gov.

  • February 13, 2020 - The Analytical Results page was updated to include the Individual Year Analytical Results for Pesticides for the years 2013 through 2017. Please refer to Note 5 on the same page for further explanation.
  • August 15, 2019 – The Analytical Results page was updated to include the Individual Year Analytical Results for Elements for the year 2017 and a note was added to the same page to explain some differences with these results.
  • October 31, 2018 - The Analytical Results page was updated to include the Individual Year Analytical Results for Elements for the year 2016. Corrections were also made to years 2014 and 2015 for TDS Elements results.
  • October 31, 2018 - The Analytical Results page was updated to include a new note that explains why nickel data was not included for TDS Elements results for years 2014 through 2016.
  • July 24, 2017 – The Analytical Results page was updated to include the Individual Year Analytical Results for Elements for years 2014 and 2015. Text was added to the page to provide clarity for these data.
  • July 24, 2017 – The PDF titled Individual Year Analytical Results Column Key was updated to include the City ID field which is included in the 2014 and 2015 individual year analytical results for elements.
  • July 24, 2017 – The Analytical Methods page was updated to include a PDF titled 2014 Elements Methods Changes that discusses the method changes that began in 2014. The PDF titled Analytical Methods was updated to correct errors.
  • May 9, 2017 – The Analytical Results page was updated to include a new version of  the Toxic and Nutritional Elements Summary of Multi-Year Results to include data from 2012 and 2013. The Analytical Results page also includes an updated version of the Elements 2013 individual year results text file that corrects some errors found.
  • March 7, 2017 – The Analytical Results page was updated to include the Individual Year Analytical Results for Pesticides and Industrial Chemicals for years 2006 through 2012.
  • May 20, 2016 – Updated the Toxic and Nutritional Elements Summary of Multi-Year Results to include Mercury data for 2011. This summary can be found on the Analytical Results page.
  • May 20, 2016 – Updated the Elements 2011 individual year results text file and added Elements 2012 and Elements 2013 individual year results text files. These files can be found on the Analytical Results page.
  • April 8, 2016 – Addition of “Resources for You” to TDS Main page with the following information: (1) this document which outlines changes made to the TDS website, (2) a fact sheet for consumers that provides a one-page explanation about the TDS, and (3) a more technical fact sheet that provides more detailed information about the TDS.
  • April 8, 2016 – Addition of “Resources for You” to Study Design page with a link to the TDS compliance program.
  • April 8, 2016 – Edited the following sentence on the Study Design page to provide clarification for when market baskets are analyzed for radionuclides. The sentence now reads (new information in bold) “Portions of the prepared composites from two market baskets per year are sent to FDA’s Winchester Engineering and Analytical Center (Winchester, MA) for radionuclide analyses.”
  • April 8, 2016 – Addition of “Resources for You” to Analytical Methods page with a link to the Elemental Analysis Manual (EAM).
  • December 1, 2015 – The Analytical Results page was updated with the 2006-2014 radionuclides summary report.
  • October 21, 2015 – The TDS website is updated to its current version.
