FDA’s International Collaboration on Food Safety is a Top Priority

Constituent Update

May 2, 2023

In a new Conversations with Experts, the FDA focuses on the importance of its engagement with international organizations on critical food safety topics. In the conversation, the authors from the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) describe the organizations and the objectives of the FDA’s engagement with each to help strengthen the global food safety system, to ensure safe and fair trade in food and to encourage the harmonization of science-based food safety standards.

Among the organizations highlighted is the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation’s (APEC), an organization with whom the FDA has a long history of involvement. In the conversation, the authors discuss the FDA’s leadership in APEC and its involvement in the upcoming suite of food safety meetings in Detroit, Michigan, May 15-19, including Whole Genome Sequencing and the FDA's work to promote the adoption of international standards and important areas of food safety modernization, such as outbreak prevention, innovation, and traceability, among others.

Authors are Julie Moss, Director of the Office of International Engagement, Eric Stevens and Kelly McCormick, International Policy Analysts in the Office of International Engagement.
