FDA’s Public Meeting on Antiparasitic Drug Use and Resistance in Ruminants and Equines

The Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation (ONADE) at FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine held a public meeting entitled “Antiparasitic Drug Use and Resistance in Ruminants and Equines” on March 5 and 6, 2012.

The public meeting targeted industry and academic stakeholders interested in antiparasitic resistance in the United States. Meeting attendees explored and discussed ways antiparasitic drugs can be used, alone or in combination, to maximize drug effectiveness and minimize resistance in ruminants and equines.

Seven internationally recognized veterinary parasitology experts gave PowerPoint presentations on a range of topics related to antiparasitic resistance in the United States. FDA also invited the public to speak during the meeting’s two open comment periods. After the meeting, there was a 60-day open comment period for the public to submit comments to the FDA.
