Webinar Overview
On February 10, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) held a public webinar titled “FDA’s Rulemaking Process and Planned Tobacco Product Standards to Prohibit Menthol as a Characterizing Flavor in Cigarettes and Flavors in Cigars.” In April 2021, FDA announced plans to advance two tobacco product standards within the next year: one to prohibit menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes and another to prohibit all characterizing flavors, except tobacco, in cigars. The webinar provided an overview of the following:
- FDA’s planned tobacco product standards and why they matter to public health
- FDA’s rulemaking process and how stakeholders can participate
- Information about cessation resources and tools
During the webinar, FDA experts answered the most commonly submitted stakeholder questions.
