  1. Monthly Maintenance (Non-Appian Components)
    1. Frequency: Once a month, typically on the last weekend.
    2. Purpose: Apply FDA-required security patches to core, non-Appian components.
    3. User Impact: No expected downtime as components are patched individually with failover systems in place. Occasionally, larger updates may involve minimal downtime.
  2. Weekly Maintenance (Database Updates)
    1. Frequency: Once a week, scheduled during low-traffic periods (e.g., early Sunday mornings).
    2. Duration: 1-2 hours, with brief downtime of 10-20 minutes depending on the update.
    3. Purpose: Apply necessary database updates for security and stability. Not every week will require updates, but critical updates are addressed immediately as needed.
  3. Example Maintenance Schedule in 2025
    1. May 2025: Monthly Patch - May 24-25; Weekly Maintenance: May 4, 11, 18, 25 (1-2 AM)
    2. June 2025: Monthly Patch - June 28-29; Weekly Maintenance: June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (1-2 AM)
    3. July 2025: Monthly Patch – July 26-27; Weekly Maintenance: July 6, 13, 20, 27 (1-2 AM)
