New Era of Smarter Food Safety Management Team

Each of the core elements identified in the New Era of Smarter Food Safety blueprint outlines goals that are being pursued by teams under the leadership of senior leaders in FDA’s foods program.

  • Core Element 1: Tech-Enabled Traceability
    • Kari Irvin, Deputy Director of the Office of Coordinated Outbreak Response and Evaluation (CORE) in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN)
    • Adam Friedlander, Policy Analyst, CORE, CFSA 
  • Core Element 2: Smarter Tools and Approaches for Prevention and Outbreak Response
    • Mark Moorman, Director of the Office of Food Safety, CFSAN
    • Vinetta Howard King, Director, Office of Human and Animal Food Operations – East in the Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA)
  • Core Element 3: New Business Models and Retail Modernization
    • Laurie Farmer, Director, Office of State Cooperative Programs, ORA
    • Andreas Keller, Director,  Multi-Commodity Foods, Office of Food Safety, CFSAN
  • Core Element 4: Food Safety Culture
    • Conrad Choiniere, Director, Office of Analytics and Outreach, CFSAN
    • Chris Waldrop, Senior Health Scientist, Office of Analytics and Outreach, CFSAN

In addition, Sylvia Kim, Policy Analyst, OFPR, serves as overall implementation lead. Together they provide management, direction, and coordination within the agency to realize the goals contained in the blueprint.
