FDA approves first generic cefovecin sodium injection for treating skin infections in dogs and cats

Today the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Cefovecin Sodium for Injection for the treatment of skin infections, such as abscesses and wounds caused by certain bacterial strains, in dogs and cats.
Cefovecin Sodium for Injection contains the same active ingredient (cefovecin sodium) as the approved brand name drug product, Convenia, which was first approved on April 25, 2008. In addition, the FDA determined that Cefovecin Sodium for Injection contains no inactive ingredients that may significantly affect the bioavailability of the active ingredient.
Cefovecin Sodium for Injection is an antimicrobial drug and is only available via a prescription from a licensed veterinarian.
Cefovecin Sodium for Injection is supplied as a multi-use vial equal to 80 mg/mL when reconstituted with 10 mL sterile water for injection.
