Steven Tave, Director Office of Strategic Planning and Operational Policy

 Steve Tave

Steve Tave is the Director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Operational Policy.  In this role, he serves as the principal advisor to ORA leadership regarding policy development, compliance and enforcement, and strategic management of all the commodities that FDA regulates.  

Before joining ORA, Steve served for five years as the first permanent Director of FDA’s Office of Dietary Supplement Programs in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.  He was previously Acting Director of the Office of Unapproved New Drugs and Labeling Compliance in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research’s (CDER) Office of Compliance.  Steve began his career as an attorney and practiced law for approximately 15 years, both as a litigator in FDA’s Office of Chief Counsel and in the private sector.  He received his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
