The History of Food & Cosmetics Regulation

The federal government initiated control over certain imported foods in the 1890s, but widespread controls came about only with the passage of the 1906 Act, which outlawed adulterated and misbranded food as well as drugs. FDA incorporated numerous structural changes to carry out subsequent laws that changed the way foods and their chemical additives are regulated.
