Announcement

Cooperstown Cheese Company of Milford, New York is recalling several cheeses because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Product was sold at retailers in New York State and at the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival.

The recalled products are as follows. All package sizes are subject to the recall and the plant number on the label is 36-8524.

  • Toma Celena, lot 51017 and lot 52417
  • Roasted Garlic, lot 52417 and lot 60717
  • Roasted Garlic and Black Peppercorns, lot 52417

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall was initiated after testing conducted by both New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets (NYSDAM) and Cooperstown Cheese Company found product positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

If you have any of these cheeses, please discard them. If you have any symptoms, please get medical attention. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-978-257-4635.
