FDA Total Diet Study (TDS) Dashboard - Troubleshooting Tips

While neither the FDA webpage nor the TDSi Dashboard require local network access, Chrome or Edge users visiting this site via remote access solutions (e.g., VPN) may encounter a pop-up requesting permission to look for and connect to any device on your local network. Choosing to block permission may cause the dashboard to fail to load completely.

To ensure proper access to the dashboard:

  • Accept the local network scanning request when prompted, OR
  • Switch to a different web browser (Firefox), OR
  • Either disable your current remote access solution or switch to a different one, then reload the dashboard

This browser behavior is related to how some remote access solutions interact with new Chrome and Edge security protocols and does not indicate any security concerns with the FDA website or the FDA TDSi Dashboard.

The dashboards you will be viewing include AWS Quicksight. With an updated version of Edge or Chrome above V142 or above will limit your ability to see the visuals. The current work for this includes the user copy and pasting this into your browser "chrome://flags/#local-network-access-check" for Chrome and "edge://flags/#local-network-access-check" for Edge. Scroll down to the 'Local Network Access Checks' drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled' and restart your browser. There will no longer be any limitations to view the Dashboard.
