Position Title: Associate Director for Scientific Staffing

Pay Plan/Series/Grade: RF-601-00/RF-602-00

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is seeking an Associate Director for Scientific Staffing for the Office of Medical Products and Tobacco (OMPT). This exciting opportunity is located within the FDA, an Agency within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Associate Director will be directly responsible for leading a team to develop and implement a comprehensive effort to improve and enhance recruitment and retention of scientific staffing efforts within FDA’s medical product Centers that regulate drugs, devices, and biologics throughout the world. Work in a fast-paced environment where innovation, creativity, and results are embraced. The Associate Director for Scientific Staffing will report to our Silver Spring, MD location.

The Food and Drug Administration is FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by assuring that foods are safe, wholesome, sanitary and properly labeled; ensuring that human and veterinary drugs, and vaccines and other biological products and medical devices intended for human use are safe and effective; Protecting the public from electronic product radiation; Assuring cosmetics and dietary supplements are safe and properly labeled; Regulating tobacco products; and Advancing the public health by helping to speed product innovations.

Ideal Associate Director Proficiency:

  1. Creating targeted recruitment strategies and aligning them with agency/center mission.
  2. Developing best practices.
  3. Improving retention within the workforce.
  4. 4. Executive level experience in both the public and private sectors.
  5. 5. Regulatory experience.
  6. 6. Passion for recruitment with a scientific background.
  7. Individual will have a strong presence throughout the FDA, at scientific and regulatory conferences, and within Industry, so superb communication skills, and an “out of the box” thinker is needed.
  8. A Ph.D, M.D, D.O. or PharmD required.
  9. Transcripts are a requirement to support the advanced degree.
