September 29, 2026

Date:

Time:

Meeting Overview:

On September 29, 2026, the Food and Drug Administration’s, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Office of Blood Research and Review is hosting a roundtable on strengthening the supply chain for the collection and manufacturing of Whole Blood and blood components for transfusion and further manufacturing, including Source Plasma.
The purpose of the roundtable is to identify supply chain challenges and potential solutions to prevent shortages of supplies and equipment used in blood manufacturing to help ensure a safe and adequate blood supply in the United States. During this one-day meeting, FDA and other key stakeholders, including representatives from the blood collection industry, supply chain manufacturers, and federal agencies in the Department of Health and Human Services will discuss current challenges and offer strategies to strengthen and build resilience in the supply chain for blood manufacturing.
There will be three sessions focused on: (1) current challenges to supply chain disruptions involving blood manufacturing, (2) manufacturers’ perspectives on the root causes of supply chain disruptions and potential solutions, and (3) the role of federal agencies in strengthening and building resilience in the supply chain. For each session, there will be presentations from designated speakers, followed by a brief facilitated discussion. There will be an opportunity for public participation during an open public comment session.

Meeting Objectives:

  • Describe the supply chain for blood manufacturing and identify what supplies and equipment are essential to manufacturing blood and blood components.
