Guidance for Industry: A Labeling Guide for Restaurants and Other Retail Establishments Selling Away-From-Home Foods

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA or we) is currently revising the guidance document entitled “Guidance for Industry: A Labeling Guide for Restaurants and Other Retail Establishments Selling Away-From-Home Foods,” dated April 2008.  We are revising this guidance document in order to make changes in light of FDA’s issuance of  final rules for Nutrition Labeling of Standard Menu Items in Restaurants and Similar Retail Food Establishments and Calorie Labeling of Articles of Food in Vending Machines (published in the Federal Register on December  1, 2014 – see 79 FR 71155 and 79 FR 71259).

We anticipate that when published, the revised guidance document will reflect policies for nutrition labeling for foods and establishments subject to the requirements of 21 CFR 101.10, 101.11 and 101.8.

Inquiries may be sent to CalorieLabeling@fda.hhs.gov or CalorieLabelingVend@fda.hhs.gov.
