Methods Of Communication

How are messages regarding ORA news and events disseminated?

ORA's Division of Communications uses national email broadcast messages to disseminate emergency and non-emergency regulatory and public health information to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial regulatory and public health agency officials regarding important FDA programs, policies, procedures, events, actions, initiatives, rulemakings, and public health emergencies such as foodborne illness outbreak investigations and injuries/deaths resulting from the use of FDA-regulated products. This information is usually of national importance and scope and is provided to the Division of Communications by FDA Centers and Offices for dissemination to our federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial regulatory and public health partners. The Division of Communications currently uses a digital communications system that contains email distribution lists of state, local, tribal, and territorial regulatory and public health officials to send out its national email broadcast messages. These national email broadcast messages are an important communications tool because they provide for the dissemination of important and highly critical regulatory and public health information to our internal and external stakeholders. What are 50-State Calls?

A 50-State Conference Call is a national conference call that ORA's Division of Communications sets up, coordinates, and moderates on behalf of FDA centers and offices that request the calls to disseminate and discuss emergency and non-emergency regulatory and public health information with our federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial regulatory and public health agency partners. These national conference calls are used to disseminate and discuss important and critical information regarding FDA programs, policies, procedures, actions, initiatives, rulemakings, and investigations of public health incidents such as foodborne illness outbreaks and injuries/deaths resulting from the use of FDA-regulated products. The 50-State calls are operator-assisted and include a question and answer session that allows callers to ask questions or provide comments regarding the topic of the call. Invitations to participate in the 50-State calls are sent out to state, local, tribal, and territorial regulatory and public health officials by the Division of Communications using their national email broadcast messaging system. Like national email broadcast messaging, the 50-State calls are an important communications tool because they provide for the exchange of important and critical regulatory and public health information between FDA and our internal and external stakeholders.
