Dear FDA,
Thank you for allowing my comments to be heard. I strongly disagree with the public advertising of psychiatric drugs. What they advertise is not true. They state that these drugs correct the chemical imbalances people have, but they have no proof of that. I have personally experienced these supposedly "safe" and "effective" drugs actually make a person worse. My sister was prescribed several of these drugs including Zoloft, Prozac, and Lithium. Before she took any of these drugs she had been having some problems, but once she started these drugs her life became even worse. She also has attempted suicide 3 TIMES AFTER taking them!!!!! Still the doctors have not taken her off these drugs and instead have increased her doses and given her more powerful and dangerous drugs. Her ability to think and reason has been greatly diminished. When she is on her prescribed pills she acts like she's drunk or she falls asleep. She is no longer able to carry on an intelligent coversation and she is not able to get and hold a job. However because of all this advertising and the lies the drug companies have pushed no one is trying to get her off all of these drugs. Besides, most of them she can't go off of right away as they are so powerful she will have massive withdraw and an even greater chance of suicide. For all that was promised about these drugs--that they treat depression and anxiety and that they are safe and effective--I have seen NOTHING but the exact opposite. I am positive I am NOT the only one as I have heard and seen similar stories. Their lies need to stop. People need to really know that these medications are not correcting some "chemical imbalance". They also need to know there are much better and safer ways to treat and handle depression. I am appalled that the FDA with its purpose to protect the people of the United States is allowing drugs to be distributed and sold that have been seen to cause a large increase in suicidal behavior. It is such an obvious oxymoron that what the drug companies are promoting to "treat" depression will actually cause you to become so depressed that you kill yourself. There is no logic to this. It is really irresponsible of these drug companies to push this for an obvious profit and even more so for the FDA to allow it. Please stop them from advertising and making more drug addicts and suicidal people in this country. Thank you.
