The direct marketing of drugs to consumers for psychiatric drugs is out of control. SO many people are on those drugs now, with horrible side effects and then being told 'that is the underlying disease getting worse' when they are actually experiencing side effects. Thes drugs are not helping anyone but the drug manufacturers. The public is being deliberately misled. There is no such thing as a 'chemical imbalance'. There is no proof. It has become part of the lexicon of our society, but it not true. This marketing should be stopped. The public has been tricked into buying something that shows no evidence of efficacy (other than doctored studies paid for by the drug companies to show positive outcomes). It is time to stop this out of control freight train. Placebos show just as much of an effect as the drug itself (re: 'The Emperor's New Drug' by Kirsch, et al)
