The FDA has a responsibility to the public regarding 'proper use' of the drugs it passes for public consumption. Doctors, not media franchise, or advertising agencies, have the correct knowledge and correct technical data to inform the public about medical prescription drugs. The public, being largely uniformed about the specific exactitude of diagnosis, could believe anything that is broadcast. So who is going to now control the advertiser? The MONEY driven advertisers? Please do not allow ANY (UL) advertising of any kind, in any media, of prescription drugs. Leave the informing of the existence and use of drugs to the professionally trained medical personnel. Even if the advertiser uses a 'medically trained personnel' as an advisor. I believe you will end up with a general statement in an ad, not a personally tailored communication that the individuals can correctly understand. I also believe that advertising such will generally decrease the health of the nation. When the power of advertising drives home the message of mental illness and chemical imbalances it is my opinion that the general public will start to believe or 'self diagnose' that there is something wrong with them and then demand the drug. Please keep the promotion of such technical and potentially dangerous drugs off of the general communication channels of this planet.
