Your advisory panel said two years ago that emergency contraception should be available over the counter. Why has nothing been done on this so far? I can see no reason that emergency contraception should not be available over the counter - and maybe I am missing some information, but I trust that your advisory panel knew what it was doing and had all the knowledge availble. In an emergency, there may not be time to go to a doctor to get a prescription and to be most effective emergency contraception must be taken within twenty-four hours. We already know that many, many rapes go unreported because the women involved may be too ashamed or afraid to go to authorities. How many of them then will go to the doctor? These women should not have to bear the child of a man who raped them because they are too ashamed or too poor to afford emergency contraception. They are innocent. Do what your panel said and let emergency contraception be sold over the counter. The only reason not to is politics and playing politics with American lives is unpatriotic and wrong. As a person of faith, I call on you to do the right thing, by God and by this country, and do not punish the innocent women of America for the sake of politics.
