Issue Areas/Comments
It is of great importance that food is labeled gluten free. We have a very hard time with the current labeling system. Although ingredients are listed, we have no way of knowing if some of the ingredients are OK for a gluten free diet. Shopping for prepared foods is a real chore and is very time consuming. One of our local grocery store chains has found a way to label all of their packaged foods with labels that tell if the food is gluten free, lactose free, etc. and it helps tremendously. For those people who are very allergic to wheat and have severe reactions, it is imperative that this labeling take place as soon as is humanly possible. It is a very real health concern, just as sugar is to diabetics. Please do all that you can to deal with this very important matter. Thank you.
