Issue Areas/Comments
Dear Sirs, I am opposed to using cloned animals as a food source and strongly urge that any product used for human consumption be properly labeled as such. The nation will start to face an escalating problem with obesity and diabetes in the coming generations and this subject in itself is equivelant to putting a pistol in the hands of a child. Purely absurd! I can already envision a society where only the wealthy will be afforded the privelege of organic products and the poorer will only be afforded what the FDA seems apporopriate for human consumption. When the country of Mexico sent aid to Katrina victims in the form of food and meats from their country, they were detained and the food not used and destroyed because of the issue of the Mad cow contamination, yet the Agency can make a blanket statement that cloned food products can be used and not require proper labeling? Do not think that the FDA's decisions in the past have not gone unnoticed or undocumented, I urge the heads of this Agency to practice the Art of thinking before speaking as your track record indicates that you lack very much so in this department. This agency in the past has made great strides and advances for the welfare of the people, it seems that as of late some decisions have been without merit. I urge caution in this matter, thank you Ricardo G. Gonzales
