Issue Areas/Comments
The approval of cloned animals being used as food is a mistake. Cloned animals have a higher incidence of deformity and susceptibility to disease. But more importantly there are huge ethical issues involved. To approve this is a mistake. To approve this and not require some kind of labeling is a travesty. This mistake has already been made with genetically engineered food. When surveys are taken, the majority of Americans would like to know if the food they're eating is genetically modified. However, because the FDA does not require that listing, consumers are blind. Your job is to protect American's rights as food and drug consumers and to protect our safety. Our right is to know how our food is produced and to make intelligent decisions based on that information. If you want to allow this morally questionable means of reproduction to go on, then so be it. But you must also allow American consumers to have the information they need.
