Whatever the decision may be as to producing cloned meats and dairy products and making them available to the public, my stance is this: The consumers should be given the opportunity for choice. The products should be labeled clearly as 'cloned' or natural (use whatever wording suits your regulations, however it should be clear). If the products are offspring of the cloned animals, they should STILL be labelled as such. No one in a truly free society should be forced to eat a modified food due to the agencies' failure to label (or direct decision against labelling) the meats properly. It is NOT this agencies job to decide for the consumers the best sustenance availability. It is the agencies job to INFORM the consumer and then allow them to make their own decisions. I am a scientist and I place faith in comprehensive testing and can accept that there is a likelihood that there is no difference in the livestock and perhaps no pursuing ill-effects. However, I do not agree with a forced consumption. I also place a very high value on nature and its' benefits and personally I do not pollute my body with unnecessary chemicals nor unnatural foods. I realize very much this is a personal choice, that is why I advocate a CHOICE. I do not wish to give up eating meat and dairy but cannot say what my decision would be if a comprehensive label is not made available to me. It will be a very sad and moreso dangerous day when the populus is no longer allowed to make their own decisions regarding their livlihood.
