| I am concerned about three issues related to the production and consumption of cloned animals.
First, genetically identical populations of animals may be less able to survive if subjected to a disease. This could result in large scale problems in the food supply.
Secondly, if the cloned animal had a genetically transmitted disease or prion caused disease such as mad cow, this would be transmitted to the cloned animals offspring. For instance, this could lead to large numbers of animals with mad cow disease or genetically caused diseases.
The public has the right as educated consumers to know what they are eating. I think lack of a policy to require full disclosure about all food products is a severe breach of public's trust in your agency.
I oppose the draft guidance as it stands. Please consider my comments.
