I am disappointed to learn of the FDA's proposal to approve the use of animal clones for human consumption. You are responsible for safeguarding the public from such atrocities, yet you openly align yourself with the practice by essentially making the statement that it "lessens the occurrence of disease and increases herd production". Agribusiness has gone the way of many other industries. It has become so highly focused on profit that it ignores the dangers in its wake. Your claim that cloned livestock is safe for human consumption is just an instrument that agribusiness will employ to force the public to accept the practice of animal cloning as normal, thereby removing an obstacle in the pathway of their zeal for shareholder profits. The time tested and proven process of natural selection is the only means to ensure the survival of the fittest species in the grand scope encompassing all variables and factors effecting the progeny of the species. America was founded on the hard work and patience of the small farmer. The giant agribusinesses that you have grown to represent are disastrous. Have you not noticed the increased popularity of natural and organic products found at your local grocer? Their increased presence should be a signal to the FDA that it is time to reconsider its practices. The entire practice of cloning animals for human consumption should be banned.
