Issue Areas/Comments
I am writing to request, in the event of FDA approval and allowance of cloned food sources into the marketplace, that cloned foods mandatorily be labeled as such, so that consumers will have a choice. I am ethically and morally opposed to cloning as a part of my religious backgrond, and I believe that there are many others like myself who would like to be informed as to which food sources do not violate our religious beliefs. I also believe that, although the FDA has done an extensive 5 year study on this issue, there may be risks related to ingestion of cloned foods that may still be unknown, or that would not necessarily be evident after 5 years. It is my hope that cloned animals will not be used for food at all, but in the event that they are approved, I request labels for consumer choice. Thank you for taking public comments on this issue.
