Comments for FDA General
1. General Comments I am writing regarding the proposed restriction of ephedra. I am a user and a STRONG PROPONENT of the availability of ephedra for weight loss and other useful purposes. I have been using ephedra containing products for the last 5 years and I have recommended them to hundreds of my patients as well as my family and colleagues. They are safe if used as directed. As a healthcare professional, I feel people face greater health risks as the result of obesity than ephedra. The banning of epedra products based on few cases of misuse is not in the public interest. I strongly feel proper lebeling should be put on all products and if some manufacturers are in breach of proper manufacturing and labeling, THEY should be regulated. Alcohol and cigarrettes are dangerous and can kill, so why not ban them? As a matter of fact TOO much of anything is bad. Where will this end? The FDA's role should be to make sure proper warnings and labeling is done and let the individuals decide what they want to do as with anything else.
