Comments for FDA General
1. General Comments As a member of Canada's large export community, with a growing customer base in the US, we are as concerned with the security of the delivery of our product as our recipient customers in the states. While it is implicitly understood that the requirement for registration of food facilities has been necessitated by unfortunate recent events, we hope that this requirement may be implemented with the assistance of some of the latest technology, so as to assist both up and downstream. By allowing on-line registration, with perhaps a second-stage verification by local authorities, not only would it expedite what is doubtless a daunting process, but also allow for a more manageable processing of said registrations for the FDA. This could be logically extended to the notification requirements as well, thus allowing for a more logical and expedient means to track shipping information from the multitudinous exporters. If the varied categories of exporter were tied into their own home-page within the system, bi-directional communication would therefore be rendered far more efficient, as a configuration engine could be applied to make communicating new regulations/procedures to specific industry segments more effective. We hope that these suggestions prove useful in determining the best approach toward implementing the upcoming regulations. Though we realize that not all organizations engaged in enterprises exporting food stuffs to the US marketplace are sufficiently proficient in the new technologies to fully capitalize on the recommendations, we are very confident that many organiztions affected by the new standards and regulations would welcome the opportunity to utilize technology to aid in compliance.
