Comments for FDA General
1. General Comments I have several serious concerns regarding unlabeled bioengineered foods, especially for children and older adults. We already know of one incidence where corn bioengineered for animal feed escaped into the human food chain. I am concerned that there may be other incidences of this type that have not been yet detected. For example, I am personally very, very allergic to pesticides of any kind. If I consume food that has the pesticide genetically inserted into the food product, then there is no way for me to wash off the pesticide - it's INSIDE the food. And, furthermore, if these foods are unlabeled, how will I know to avoid them? I believe this new technology is financially driven, and as such, is being pushed too soon into production without adequately testing for adverse consequences. We CANNOT afford to pollute our foodchain more than it already is with potentially dangerous bioengineered foodstuff, with it's pollen spreading and contaminating neighboring crops, killing beneficial insects, etc. I strongly urge you to label all bioengineered foods, and limit its approval until more testing is done - by independent, unbiased laboratories. Thank you for your time & consideration.
