Sodium on the Nutrition Facts Label

Sodium: Look at the Label Header Image

NOTE: FDA is working with the food industry to make reasonable reductions in sodium across a wide variety of foods so that Americans who want to consume less sodium have an easier time doing so. For more information, see Sodium Reduction.

Over 70% of dietary sodium comes from eating packaged and prepared foods. Most Americans eat too much sodium and diets higher in sodium are associated with an increased risk of developing high blood pressure.

The Nutrition Facts label is a handy tool you can use every day to see the amount of sodium in packaged foods and beverages and make informed dietary choices.
