FDA's Agricultural Water Assessment Builder is a user-friendly tool designed to help farms understand the proposed requirements in the Agricultural Water Proposed Rule. The development of this tool is consistent with our objectives in the New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint to look for smarter tools and approaches for food safety. Use of the tool is optional.
This tool prompts users to answer questions and/or fill in information specific to their unique conditions. It guides them through the following elements of a pre-harvest agricultural water assessment in an interactive format:
- Agricultural Water System Components
- Animal Impacts and Activities
- BSAAOs
- Human Waste
- Other Water Users
- Other Potential Sources of Hazards
- Crop Characteristics
- Agricultural Water Use Practices
- Environmental Conditions
- Other Relevant Factors
- Outcomes and Measures
Information entered into the tool is not shared with the FDA and will not be saved. However, users have the opportunity to save or print the information they provide to their local computer.

Paper-based Tools
The FDA has released paper-based versions of its agricultural water assessment builder tool in both English and Spanish. The paper-based versions of the tool will make the content more accessible to a broader array of users.
