How did your career begin at FDA?
I served many years as a biomedical research librarian at the National Institutes of Health Library and needed a change. When I learned that CTP was building their new Knowledge Management Branch, it sounded exciting to build a new service from the ground up. I applied and joined CTP in 2018. The work is different but similar enough to make the most of my skill sets.
What do you value most about working at FDA?
I work with an excellent team and feel genuinely appreciated by the people I help. CTP also supports work/life balance, which is important to so many people.
What are you most proud of in terms of your work at FDA?
I feel I’m an important part of the team that works to improve public health.
What advice would you give to an FDA job seeker?
It can be difficult to get hired in the government even when meeting all the qualifications. It can be a frustrating process for the applicant and the hiring official. Being a librarian, I’d recommend getting a book on how to write a federal resume because the perfect government resume is substantially different than say business or academic resumes. Have one ready and an alert set for the type of job you want on USAJobs because application windows are often short.
When you're not at work, what is your favorite way to unwind?
I take my dog for a walk in Rock Creek Park.
