Background

Dr. James Fuscoe received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from San Diego State University in 1976. He then attended the University of Tennessee’s Oak Ridge Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences where he received his Ph.D. in 1980. Between 1980 and 1983 Dr. Fuscoe worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Baylor College of Medicine. In 1983, he was appointed as the senior biomedical scientist in the Biomedical Sciences Division at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, University of California where he remained until 1987.

He then became an associate professor at the Center for Environmental Health in the Department of Animal Science, University of Connecticut (1988-1990). Following this, Dr. Fuscoe worked as a program leader for Environmental Health Research and Testing, Inc. (1990-1993) and then as a senior scientist for Integrated Laboratory Systems (1993-1995). Between 1995 and 2001 he worked as a research biologist at the EPA in the Environmental Carcinogenesis Division. He now works as a supervisory research biologist and branch chief at NCTR, as well as a member of the graduate faculty at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.

Research Interests

Dr. Fuscoe’s research interests include:

  • combining omic technologies for a systems approach to toxicology
  • application of genomics to toxicology
  • development and application of molecular biomarkers to detect effects of drug exposures
  • predicting possible drug adverse events in susceptible populations (e.g.,the young, the elderly, males, females)
  • mammalian molecular genetics, mutagenesis, and carcinogenesis.
