CDRH – A Great Place for Public Health Service Officers to Work

CDRH fosters an inclusive environment that aligns with our mission as officers. -CDR Chinyelum Olele

CDRH takes great pride in our cadre of officers and are committed to providing support, specifically geared to the needs of Officers and their role within the Public Health Service (PHS). Below are some of the many reasons CDRH is a great place for an Officer to maximize the opportunities in their career.

Employee Recognition

CDRH is the only FDA Center with the ROCC program which recognizes officer achievement and supports officers’ well-being. - LCDR Hanniebey Wiyor

Recognition programs unique to the Center are available such as the Recognizing Officers Contributions to CDRH (ROCC) program. This program compliments the Commissioned Corps Honor Awards Program and is a way for managers to provide Center level acknowledgement to the outstanding work Officers do on a regular basis.

Career Advancement Opportunities

Within in CDRH, Officers have opportunities to advance in both rank and level of responsibility throughout their career. Officers are able to grow and advance in their positions through a novel program established to mirror civilian career ladders. This program encourages managers to periodically determine if a higher-level billet is appropriate based on the position and Officer’s performance. Our Officers also hold supervisory, leadership, and executive level positions throughout the Center and hold ranks as high as RDML.

Supportive of Officer Roles and Activities

Managers and supervisors understand the dual careers of which PHS officers must be mindful, striving for success and progression of responsibility in the work setting while maintaining a portfolio of success and involvement in PHS-based activities. - CAPT Bradley Cunningham

Officers in CDRH are encouraged and supported to participate in a wide array of PHS groups, associations, and activities. Officers in the Center are leaders within the PHS in positions such as Chief Professional Officer and category Professional Advisory Committee Chairs. Many of these Officers are highly sought after mentors who are able to expert guidance to officers in navigating their careers within CDRH, FDA, and PHS. Center leadership also has been extremely supportive of Officers deploying. Notable missions include: COVID-19, Ebola, Unaccompanied Minor, Afghan Repatriation Support, and hurricane relief efforts, to name a few.
