Heather Janik

Heather Janik brings 15 years of frontline public affairs knowledge to the FDA, with extensive experience in top-tier media placement, crisis communications, reputation management and navigating the nuances of policy-related communications.
Ms. Janik served as a Director of Thought Leadership & Media Relations at Feeding America, the second largest charity in the U.S. that serves 40 million people facing hunger each year. At Feeding America, she crafted national messaging, secured coverage of innovative food waste reduction efforts and developed thought leadership strategy.
Previously, she served as Deputy Director at Council for a Strong America, leading the education nonprofit’s communications efforts around the value of high-quality preschool. In partnership with top military brass, law enforcement leaders and Fortune 500 business executives invested in early childhood education, Ms. Janik created and directed media, digital advocacy and editorial strategy.
For nearly six years, she served as Press Secretary for Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s Department of Homeless Services in New York City and was the point of contact for local, national and international media on issues related to human services, poverty and housing. When Hurricane Sandy devastated the city in 2012, she ensured timely response to reporters around the country about the evacuation centers housing thousands of displaced New Yorkers.
Her communications experience extends to acting as Associate Producer at FOX News national morning show and leading broadcast efforts for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy as Deputy Press Secretary. She began her career on Capitol Hill.
Ms. Janik graduated with honors from the George Washington University with a bachelor’s in journalism and is a member of the National Press Club
