What is FDA's budget and what is its impact?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration works tirelessly to protect the public health. FDA ensures the safety and effectiveness of more than $2.7 trillion worth of products used by consumers. (Yes, $2.7 trillion, which is more than $2 thousand billion. It’s a lot.)

These products include human and animal drugs; medical devices; radiation-emitting products; vaccines, blood, and other biologics; and human and animal foods. While there is no known safe tobacco product, FDA also regulates tobacco products. Another fact? Even with FDA’s vast regulatory responsibilities, the cost for Americans is less than you think.
