FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA)
Department of health and human services (HHS)
The FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Office of Blood Research and Review (OBRR), Division of Emerging and Transfusion Transmitted Diseases (DETTD) is recruiting to fill a Senior Staff Fellow position to serve as a Principal Investigator in the Laboratory Molecular Virology (LMV). LMV scientists are actively engaged in research to develop novel molecular tools for detection and monitoring of transfusion transmitted viruses including retroviruses and applying molecular techniques to identifying host biomarkers of pathogenesis.
The selected candidate will develop an independent research program on molecular virology with emphasis on pathogen detection and biomarker discovery in the context of transfusion transmitted infectious agents that pose a threat to the safety of the blood supply. In addition, the incumbent will serve as liaison with CBER HIVE staff to ensure that the division’s needs for analysis of complex genomic data from infectious disease testing to ensure blood safety are addressed. Also, the selected candidate will participate in the regulatory review of in vitro diagnostic devices for testing blood donations, and tests for patient diagnosis/monitoring of retroviral infections including HIV. The candidate will also participate in development of policy to ensure the safety of the nation’s blood supply from transmission of infectious agents.
This position will be filled through the Service Fellowship program. The appointment is for up to four years with opportunities for renewal. Applications will be accepted from all groups of qualified candidates, including U.S. citizens or non-U.S. citizens holding valid immigration status and work authorization at the FDA.
