FDA-Wide Orientation of New Scientific Staff
FDA has established systems to ensure that our scientific workforce experiences a smooth-functioning orientation process and successful integration into the Agency’s work culture.
Before coming on board, new FDA hires receive an e-mailed offer letter and instructions on background checks, finger prints, and start date through FDA’s automated eArrive system.
The system enables required resources, like new employee badges, FDA network accounts, and e-mail addresses to be available to new hires on day one of their employment.
All new FDA employees attend a two-day orientation that familiarizes them with Agency values, culture, and policies and procedures, covering subjects like Introduction to FDA, Ethics, Information and Technology Security, and Environmental Health and Safety.
New staff members also get a checklist of activities they need to complete before joining FDA and at various milestones during their first year on the job.

Since FDA’s work requires the integration of public health, science, and law, each of our Centers and Offices provides regulatory training to new scientists, who have the opportunity to learn about laws that FDA enforces
