These pistachios were supplied by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. and are being recalled as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which maybe bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Pistachios were sold through fund raisers in CO, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, MD, MN, MO, NE, OR, WV, and WY and from the Osage store in 1 pound bags with the Osage Pecan Company label. There are no codes on the label.

No illnesses have been reported from Osage's Roasted and Salted In-shell Pistachios.

Consumers who have purchased Osage Roasted and Salted In-shell Pistachios between the dates of October 23rd, 2008 and April 1st, 2009 may return them to Osage Pecan Company for a full refund.
