Gurley's Foods, Inc. Issues a Nationwide Voluntary Recall of Gurley's and Gurley's Golden Recipe Chocolate Peanuts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --Willmar, Minnesota -- February 20, 2009 --- Gurley's Foods, Inc., of Willmar, Minnesota announced today a voluntary recall of some lots of Gurley's 2/1.00 Chocolate Covered Peanuts and Gurley's Golden Recipe Chocolate Covered Peanuts. The recall is a precautionary measure due to the recall expansion of Peanut Corporation of America's Blakely, Georgia facility, which is the subject of an FDA investigation concerning the recent salmonella outbreak. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare instances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Gurley's Golden Recipe Chocolate Covered Peanuts (UPC 0-77449-49888-0) 5 oz. codes: 08 DEC 09, 17 DEC 09, 15 JAN 10, 16 JAN 10.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue. This recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers who have purchased any of these packaged products should return them to the place of purchase or discard them. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-800-426-7845. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
