Snackerz Inc. Recalls Snackerz Roasted and Salted Peanuts Because of Possible Health Risk

Ron Emrani

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --  March 26, 2009 -- Snackerz Inc. of Commerce, CA, is recalling Snackerz Roasted & Salted Peanuts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled peanuts were distributed in CA, NV, AZ, and TX in retail stores and through mail orders.

The product is sold in a 2.5 ounce, plastic bag labeled as Snackerz Roasted & Salted Peanuts with a UPC code #7-61584-19701-1 and with a Best Before or Best Buy date of 5/20/2006 through 11/12/2009 on the top of the package and an expiration date stamped on the side.

This recall is being initiated because the product contains peanuts that were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA).   PCA previously recalled the peanuts because of concern about Salmonella contamination.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Consumers who have purchased the product are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-888-576-2253, Monday thru Friday during the hours of 8am to 5 pm.
